Wittenberg Track And Field Teams Visit Capital Second Time, Another Solid Performance

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's indoor track and field teams were bolstered by strong individual performances on Friday, as the men finished 7th and the women 6th at the Rev. Mike Hout Invitational at Capital.

In the second of three trips to the Columbus campus, freshman Rod Belcher (Covington, Ga./Newton County) led the men with a second-place finish in the 55-meter dash, while junior Katie Shoemaker (Arcanum, Ohio/Franlin Monroe) paced the women with third spots in the 300-meter dash and 500-meter run. Belcher's time was .02 off the school record in the event.

Other notable performances included senior Nicole Bailey's (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) fourth-place showing in the women's long jump, seniorGabe Savage's (Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County North) third-place finish in the 1-mile run, and freshman Andrew Carter's (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) third-place spot in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore Adam Roberts (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) took fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles, and junior Erik Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Country Day) launched to a second-place finish in the triple jump. Rounding things out, senior Allison Walker (Columbus, Ohio/Academy) added a fourth-place finish in the shot put and a fifth in the weight throw. Her mark of 37 feet, 6.75 inches was a personal best.

The teams travel to Capital for the last time on the indoor schedule on Friday, Feb. 22, but next gear up for the North Coast Athletic Conference relays at Denison University on Saturday, Feb. 2.
