Pidgeon leads No. 15 Men's Golf to 33-stroke victory at Win Palmer Cup

SEWICKLEY, Pa. — Senior Nicklaus Pidgeon (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) tied for top individual honors to lead the No. 15 Wittenberg men's golf team to a 33-stroke victory following Tuesday's second round at the Win Palmer Cup. Pidgeon was one of six Tigers to finish in the top nine of the individual standings.

The Basics

  • Venue: Allegheny Country Club - Sewickley, Pa., Par 70, Yardage: 6,594
  • Wittenberg served as the host school for the tournament.
  • Wittenberg is ranked No. 15 nationally in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division III Coaches Poll, which was released on April 12.
  • Joining Wittenberg in the six-team field were Washington & Jefferson, Penn State Altoona, Allegheny and Westminster. Wittenberg's B team also competed in the tournament.

The Tournament

  • Wittenberg shot a 7-under-par 279-274—553 to win the tournament over second-place Penn State Altoona, which shot a 26-over-par 298-288—586. Washington & Jefferson was third with a 10-over-par 298-290—588. The Wittenberg B team placed sixth with a 37-over-par 303-294—597.
  • Wittenberg entered Tuesday's second round holding a 14-stroke lead after finishing at 1-under-par on Monday. Wittenberg's B team was in fifth place at 23-over-par.
  • Pidgeon tied Denison's Tyler Hager for first place in the 36-man field with a 3-under-par 68-69—137. Hager shot rounds of 71 and 66, the latter of which was a tournament-best, and earned medalist honors in a playoff.
  • Sophomore Mark Sulek (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) finished third with a 1-under-par 68-71—139.
  • Freshman Owen Cotterman (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) was fourth with an even-par 72-68—140.
  • Junior Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) tied for fifth with 1-over-par 74-67—141.
  • Junior Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Akron Hoban) tied for seventh with a 2-over-par 71-71—142.
  • Senior J.F. Aber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) finished ninth with a 3-over-par 73-70—143.
  • Senior Grant Klepitsch (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) led the Wittenberg B team with a 7-over-par 75-72—147 to finish tied for 15th. Freshman Caleb Domitrovich (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) was 18th with a 9-over-par 72-77—149, freshman Owen Williams (Plymouth, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) was 19th with an 11-over-par 78-73—151, junior Austin Georger (Appleton, Wis./West) tied for 24th with a 15-over-par 83-72—155, junior Ryan Miller (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) tied for 28th with a 17-over-par 78-79—157 and sophomore David Walterhouse (Statham, Ga./Bethlehem Christian Academy) was 35th with a 27-over-par 84-83—167.
  • Entering play Tuesday, Sulek and Pidgeon held the 18-hole lead in the individual standings by three strokes at 2-under-par. Wright closed Monday in a five-way tie for third at 1-over-par. Cotterman was tied for eighth at 2-over-par, and Aber was tied for 12th at 3-over-par. Yarbrough was tied for 14th at 4-over-par. Domitrovich was tied for eighth at 2-over-par to lead the B team after the first round.
