No. 15 Men's Golf holds 14-stroke lead after Day 1 of Win Palmer Cup

SEWICKLEY, Pa. — The No. 15 Wittenberg men's golf team closed the opening round of the Win Palmer Cup leading the six-team field by 14 strokes on Monday as two Tigers sit atop the individual leaderboard.

The Basics

  • Venue: Allegheny Country Club - Sewickley, Pa., Par 70, Yardage: 6,594
  • Wittenberg is serving as the host school for the tournament.
  • Wittenberg is ranked No. 15 nationally in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division III Coaches Poll, which was released on April 12.
  • Joining Wittenberg in the six-team field are Washington & Jefferson, Penn State Altoona, Allegheny and Westminster. Wittenberg's B team is also competing in the tournament.

The Tournament - Day 1

  • Wittenberg shot a 1-under-par 279 to lead the field by 14 strokes.
  • Westminster is in second place at 13-over-par, and Washington & Jefferson and Penn State Altoona are tied for third at 18-over-par.
  • Wittenberg's B team is fifth at 23-over-par.
  • Two Tigers finished the opening round in a tie for the lead in the individual standings. Sophomore Mark Sulek (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) and senior Nicklaus Pidgeon (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) both shot a 2-under-par 68 to lead the 36-man field by three strokes.
  • Junior Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Akron Hoban) is in a five-way tie for third with a 1-over-par 71.
  • Freshman Owen Cotterman (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) is tied for eighth with a 2-over-par 72.
  • Senior J.F. Aber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) is tied for 12th with a 3-over-par 73.
  • Junior Jake Yarbrough (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) is tied for 14th with a 4-over-par 74.
  • Freshman Caleb Domitrovich (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) leads Wittenberg's B team with a 2-over-par 72 to sit tied for eighth. Senior Grant Klepitsch (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) is tied for 16th with a 5-over-par 75, junior Ryan Miller (Dublin, Ohio/Jeorme) and freshman Owen Williams (Plymouth, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) are tied for 21st with an 8-over-par 78, junior Austin Georger (Appleton, Wis./West) is 35th with a 13-over-par 83, and sophomore David Walterhouse (Statham, Ga./Bethlehem Christian Academy) is 36th with a 14-over-par 84.
