No. 15 Men's Golf finishes tied for 11th in Hampden-Sydney Tiger Invitational

PINEHURST, N.C. — The No. 15 Wittenberg men's golf team finished tied for 11th of 18 teams after Monday's second and final round at the Hampden-Sydney Tiger Invitational.

The Basics

  • Venue: Forest Creek Golf Club North Course - Pinehurst, N.C., Par 72, Yardage: 6,925
  • The tournament features 12 of the top 25 teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division III Coaches Poll, which was released March 1. Joining No. 15 Wittenberg are No. 1 Methodist, No. 5 Lynchburg, No. 6 Carnegie Mellon, No. 10 Washington & Lee, No. 12 Sewanee, No. 13 Babson, No. 16 Averett, No. 20 Huntingdon, No. 21 Guilford, No. 24 Greensboro and No. 25 Kenyon.

The Tournament

  • Wittenberg shot a second-round 16-over-par 304 and finished in a three-way tie with No. 5 Lynchburg and Hampden-Sydney for 11th place in the 18-team field with a 29-over-par 301-304—605. The Tigers entered the second round in a three-way tie for eighth place.
  • The Tigers finished ahead of two ranked teams in No. 13 Babson and No. 24 Greensboro.
  • No. 20 Huntingdon won the team title with a 7-over-par 583. No. 1 Methodist was second at 13-over-par, and No. 6 Carnegie Mellon rounded out the top three at 15-over-par.
  • Individually, senior J.F. Aber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the Tigers, tying for 13th in the 90-man field with a 3-over-par 74-73—147.
  • Sophomore Mark Sulek (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) tied for 24th with a 6-over-par 73-77—150.
  • Senior Nicklaus Pidgeon (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) tied for 35th with an 8-over-par 79-73—152.
  • Junior Joshua Wright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Akron Hoban) tied for 63rd with a 13-over-par 76-81—157.
  • Freshman Owen Cotterman (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) tied for 77th with an 18-over-par 78-84—162.
  • There was a four-way tie for individual medalist honors at a 2-under par 142.
