ROCHESTER, NY - The Wittenberg Tigers have held steady for three days of the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament, putting themselves in good position for a run at the prized Walnut & Bronze trophy that comes with the national championship.

The Tigers carded the second-best score of the third round at 8-over-par 296 to move into a tie for fourth place with Huntingdon. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps continues to lead the competition with a three-round stroke total of 888, followed by surprising Otterbein at 895, defending national champion Methodist at 896, and the tandem of Huntingdon and Wittenberg at 897.

Just outside of the top five but still in contention are Washington & Lee at 898, St. Thomas at 900 and host St. John Fisher at 904.

All five Tigers in the lineup played stellar golf in the third round at Midvale Country Club, led by junior Mark David Wright (Westerville, Ohio/Tree of Life) with a one-over-par round of 73. He was followed closely by freshman Isaac Hartley (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) and freshman Colin Laszlo (Waipahu, Hawaii/Punahou) with matching 74s, senior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) with a 75, and junior Garrett Brickley (Pickerington, Ohio/North) with a 78.

The overall individual standings included four Tigers in the top 35 out of 210 golfers who started the competition. Brickley is tied for 16th at 223, followed by Geise in 19th at 224, Hartley in 22nd at 225, Wright in 35th at 229 and Laszlo in 68th at 238.

"Both teams showed glimpses of what they are capable of today," said Head Coach Jeff Roope. "Knowing what's possible if half the battle. The other half is knowing that you can do it consistently. Both teams are close to that consistency."
