Tigers Take Third Place At Butler Spring Invitational

AVON, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers stepped outside of NCAA Division III to participate in the Butler Spring Invitational, finishing third in a six-team field.

Wittenberg carded scores of 308 and 311 in the two windswept rounds at Prestwick Country Club, which was playing as a par-72 at 6,960 yards. The Tigers, ranked fourth nationally in NCAA Division III, wound up eight strokes off the pace set by IUPUI with a two-round total of 611. Robert Morris-PA took second with 617, followed by Wittenberg at 619, Butler at 631, IUPUI's second team at 648, and Chicago State at 665.

After a busy few weeks opening the second half of the 2015-16 schedule, Wittenberg now takes a break from competition before the stretch run. The season-closing stretch of five tournaments in six weeks starts at Smoke Rise Country Club in Stone Mountain, Ga., for the Emory Spring Invitational on April 10-11.

Individually, the Tigers' leaders were junior Mark David Wright (Westerville, Ohio/Tree of Life) and freshman Colin Laszlo (Waipahu, Hawaii/Punahou). Wright carded rounds of 75 and 77 to finish fourth with a total score of 152, while Laszlo went 77-75 to match that placement.

Senior Sam Geise (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) was next for Wittenberg in 12th place with a 156, followed by junior Garrett Brickley (Pickerington, Ohio/North) in 16th with a 159, and junior Sam Stilwell (Sterling, Va./Dominion) in 22nd with a 166. There were 33 players entered in the tournament.
