MEADVILLE, Pa. — The Wittenberg Tigers continued their strong start to the 2011-12 season, posting a first-place finish at the Guy Kuhn Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College.

The win comes on the heels of an 18-stroke victory in the season-opening Denison Fall Invitational a week earlier. The Tigers finished four strokes ahead of second-place Rochester, carding a two-day total of 595 on the par-72, 6,808-yard course at the Country Club at Meadville. The host Gators rounded out the top three finishers in the 19-team field, which included seven North Coast Athletic Conference teams.

Wittenberg led by nine strokes after the first round, played in good conditions on Sunday. The second round was mostly played in similar conditions until late in the day, when the leaders had to play the final four holes in steady rain.

Junior Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) was the Tigers' top individual finisher with rounds of 75 and 71 for a total of 146, good for third place. He was joined in the third-place position by sophomore Ben Hogenkamp (Minster, Ohio/Minster), who carded scores of 77 and 69 while playing as an individual.

Sophomore Jack Uecker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) led after the 104-player field after Day 1 with a 70 but he faltered in the second round to place seventh with a total score of 147. Senior Jordan Millice (Cable, Ohio/Triad)followed up his first-place finish of a week ago with a 19th place finish with a score of 153. Rounding things out for the Tigers were freshman Alex Andrews (Kirtland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and sophomore David Wetterich (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) with matching 154s, good for a tie for 20th.

The Tigers will put their modest unbeaten streak on the line Sept. 25-27 at the Gordin Classic/NCAA Preview at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Most of the nation's top teams will be competing in the tournament, which will also host the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships next spring.
