Wittenberg Moves Into Fourth Overall With Strong Third-Place

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put together three solid rounds of golf to put the finishing touches on the 2007-08 season with a third-place finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship tournament, hosted by Denison University.

The Tigers were passed by Allegheny on the second day of the event, but they staved off the host team to claim the third-place finish. In the overall league standings, which encompass nine total rounds spanning four tournaments during the entire school year, Wittenberg wound up fourth, moving up one spot from its pre-championship tournament standing.

Junior Jeff Hochstetler (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) put together his finest performance of the 2007-08 season to finish in a seventh-place tie individually. He shot three straight sub-80 rounds, including a season-low 74 in his first round Saturday.

Freshman Duncan Littlefield (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) also saved his best for last with a 14th place finish. He sandwiched a pair of 80s around a second-round 76.

Ironically, junior Garrett Smith (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Christian) did not have his "A" game working over the weekend, but he still made second-team All-NCAC in recognition of his steady work over the course of the entire season. His overall total of 705 was good for 10th place as the top 12 golfers in the NCAC earned postseason awards. Hochstetler's hot weekend boosted him into second-team All-NCAC, as he moved into 12th position.
