Wittenberg Turns In Season-Best Second-Place Finish At Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio - In some respects, the Wittenberg Tigers finally put it all together with a second-place finish against a solid 11-team field at the annual Ohio Wesleyan Lamkin Strimer Invitational.

The finish was Wittenberg's best of the 2007-08 season, the first under Head Coach Jeff Roope. Four Tigers finished among the top 21 golfers on a blustery, cold, occasionally rainy weekend.

Junior Garrett Smith (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Christian) led the way, carding back-to-back 74s to finish in third place with a 148. Junior Chad Summe (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) added a seventh-place finish after posting a 76 and 75 for a two-day total of 151.

Providing support was junior Jeff Hochstetler (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) with a 158 for 18th place and freshman Duncan Littlefield (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) with a 160, good for 21st.

The Tigers moved up one spot with a second-day 305, compared to a 316 for Olivet. Wittenberg wound up 14 strokes off the pace set by nationally ranked host team Ohio Wesleyan.
