Keith Roberts Jr. brings eight years of collegiate coaching experience to his camps and clinics.  Currently, Roberts is an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the University of Pittsburgh track and field teams with his duties focusing on sprints and hurdles

Roberts arrived from Grand Valley State University, where he was associate head track and field coach and primarily worked with sprints, hurdles and relays.

During his five years at GVSU, Roberts guided student-athletes to 37 All-American honors, 20 school records, 49 GLIAC Championship titles and 38 All-Academic honors.

During the 2015 season, Roberts coached NCAA Champion Sean Wells in both the men’s 60-meter hurdles (7.78) and the 110-meter hurdles (13.68) and led the women’s 4x100 relay to a fourth-place finish. Wells earned school records in the 60-meter hurdles, indoor 200-meter dash, and the 110-meter hurdles. During the 2014 season, Roberts coached All-Americans in the men’s and women’s 60-meter hurdles, women’s 200-meter dash, women’s 100-meter hurdles, women’s 4x100 relay, men’s and women’s 4x400 relays, and the men’s and women’s distance medley relays. 

Roberts helped guide 12 women’s relay teams to NCAA Division II All-American honors. Roberts coached Chanelle Caldwell to runner-up performances in the 800-meter run in both the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships and a third-place finish in the 2012 Outdoor Championships.  Caldwell finished her career at GVSU with a total of 10 All-American accolades. Roberts also guided Brittney Banister to an All-American honor in the 100-meter dash with a fourth-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

While at GVSU, Roberts led Kalena Franklin to a third-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles (8.37) during the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships. Franklin, who improved from 14.76 in high school to 13.2 in the 100-meter hurdles, earned 11 All-American honors during her four years at GVSU. Franklin finished her senior year with All-American performances in the 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay and holds five GVSU school records.

Under Roberts’ tutelage, the GVSU men’s 4x400 meter relay ran to a third-place finish at NCAA Indoor Championships in 2013. Roberts coached Nate Hammersmith to All-American performances in the men’s 4x400 relay in 2013 and 2014 and the distance medley relay in 2013 and to six GVSU school records.  Roberts guided eight GV student-athletes to compete at USA Junior National Championships. 

While at GVSU, Roberts also directed track & field camps and speed clinics for the program and served as the team’s Academic Coordinator, directing study tables and working as a liaison between the track and field team and the Laker Academic Success Center. During his time there, the GV track and field team was named the USTFCCCA Scholar Team of the Year seven times and Roberts’ sprinters and hurdlers garnered 38 All-Academic awards.

From 2008-10, Roberts coached at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, where he was the head track and field and cross country coach. In 2008 and 2009, Roberts guided Judy Bataille to a national indoor title in the 55-meter dash (7.00). During the 2009-10 season, Roberts led the men's cross country and track and field teams to conference titles.  Roberts has coached student-athletes to NCAA Championships and All-American titles in the following events: 60h, 100h, 110h, 400h, 100, 200, 800, LJ, HJ, 4x100, 4x400.

Roberts attended Kent State University, where he was a member of the track and field team and football team. Roberts competed at USA Junior National Championships and finished 11th at NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles in 2003. Roberts also won the Mid-American Conference title in the 60-meter hurdles and holds the 55-meter hurdles record at Kent State.

Roberts, a native of Bellefontaine, Ohio, attended Bellefontaine High School and earned his bachelor's of arts in Interpersonal Communication from Kent State (2005). He also finished his master's degree in education from Heidelberg and earned USA Track & Field Level 1 Certification.  Roberts was a 2-time state champion in Ohio in the 110m hurdles. 

During camp, Roberts will teach the mental aspect of being a champion and the importance of mental toughness, visualization, positive self-talk and perseverance.
