Wittenberg Opens Season at University of Dayton's Meijer Flyer 5K

DAYTON, Ohio - The Tiger Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams opened up the 2008 season with a strong showing at the Dayton Flyer 5K with both the men and women finishing 2nd in the Intercollegiate division.

 

Strong performances on the day were highlighted by men's top runner Gabe Savage (Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County North), who finished with a time of 16:11, good for first among in the division and 28th overall. He was followed across the line by sophomores Kevin Frick (Columbus, Ohio/ Grandview) and Andrew Carter (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) with times of 17:05 and 17:11 respectively. Rounding out the top 15 performers for the Tigers, sophomore Josh Courlas (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) finished in 17:26.

On the women's side, the new faces made an immediate contribution, with the top four Tigers across the line competing in their first collegiate race. Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) paced the Intercollegiate division field, crossing in 19:46 for the division title and a 26th place finish overall amongst Division I runners. Following Dubuc, Anna Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston)finished fifth in a time of 20:38. Rounding out the scoring for the Tiger women were freshmen Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and Samantha Iden (Pickerington, Ohio/North) as well as senior Katie McIlvain (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool).

The Tiger harriers will next be in action when they come home for the Wittenberg Invitational, raced at the Springfield Masonic Home on Saturday, September 6th.
