Tigers Place Third at CWPA Championships

Grove City, PA- Wittenberg headed to Grove City, PA to compete in the CWPA Conference Tournament this weekend, pulling out wins against Utica, Washington & Jefferson, before falling against Augustana to compete for a third-place finish against Macalester. The Tigers were able to defeat Macalester 11-4 to claim third in the conference for the second year in a row.

Day One- In day one, the Red & White competed against Utica College, a team they hadn't seen yet this season. The number seven seeded Wittenberg team was easily able to defeat Utica with a score of 21-0. Leading the way for the Tigers was Meghan Lythgoe with nine goals. The win advanced Wittenberg into the next round where they saw W&J. The Tigers were once against able to pick up a 15-9 win to continue to advance in the tournament. In game two of the day, freshman Anaiah Lightner led Wittenberg with four goals. Wittenberg's second win of the day placed them against the number three seeded Augustana the next day.

Day Two- In day two the Tigers took on Augustana in their third meeting of the season. Wittenberg struggled against the Vikings earlier in the season with two 15-11 losses. In a closer battle Wittenberg put up 13 points but were unable to defeat Augustana with a final of 15-13. In game three for the Tigers, Grace McLaughlin led the way with seven goals. The loss to Augustana sent Wittenberg into competition against Macalester in a fight for third place in the conference.

Day Three- In day three of play the Tigers faced off with Macalester for the third time this season. Macalester led the series this season with two wins over the Tigers but Wittenberg was able to come back in their final meeting with an 11-4 win. Leading the Tigers was the duo of Savannah Cross and Anaiah Lightner with three goals each.

Wittenberg ends their season with an overall record of 10-18 and conference record of 6-6. Grace McLaughlin received CWPA First Team honors after the tournament while Anaiah Lightner was named CWPA Second Team.
