Tigers Go One For Three in California

Pomona Pitzer, CA- Wittenberg headed west for their spring break trip in Pomona Pitzer, CA this weekend. The Tigers saw action against the top ranked Occidental team along with Caltech, California Baptist, and Concordia.

Day One- Wittenberg competed against Occidental and Caltech day one of competition. The Tigers saw the number ten Occidental team first and with a close battle turned the match into overtime action. Wittenberg wasn't able to capitalize in overtime play and fell 10-9. The Red & White looked to 2020 All-American Grace McLaughin in game one. McLaughin totaled eight of the nine goals for Wittenberg, with the ninth goal coming from Savannah Cross. Wittenberg tallied three assists in game one from Evelyn Heil, Kiersten Heverly, and Kailey Cordova. In goal for the Red & White was Jordan Brough with ten saves after facing twenty shots on goal.

Game two of the day, Wittenberg was able to come back and pick up their fourth win of the season with a 14-8 score against Caltech. The Tigers were able to get on the board in each quarter with their most impressive play coming in the second and fourth. Leading the way for Wittenberg was another 2020 All-American. Kailey Cordova tallied five goals and one assist for six points in game two. Following Cordova was Elizabeth Schexnaider with three goals and one assist for four points. Also getting on the board for Wittenberg was Savannah Cross (2), Grace McLaughin (1), Sierra Bui (1), Evelyn Heil (1), and Tessa Crown (1). In goal for the Tigers was Olivia Pena with eight saves after facing 14 shots.

Day Two- The Tigers returned the following day to take on California Baptist and Concordia in day two of the Convergance Tournament. In their first match of the day, Wittenberg put up six goals from Savannah Cross (2), Kailey Cordova (2), Meghan Lyhgoe (1), Kiersten Heverly (1). In goal for the Red & White was Jordan Brough with seven saves, but ultimately California Baptist was able to put 19 on the board for a win. The Tigers second match-up of the day would leave them with an 0-2 day after competing against Concordia. Wittenberg put up five goals with Savannah Cross continuing to lead the Red & White with three more goals on the day to bring her total to six on the weekend. Also scoring for Wittenberg was Kailey Cordova and Grace McLaughin with one each.

Wittenberg Leaders- Wittenberg was led by Grace McLaughin with nine goals on the weekend and Jordan Brough with 19 saves.

Up Next- The Tigers will return to action on March 18th in Washington, PA against Connecticut College.
