Phillips’ Leads Tigers in 15-12 Win Over Connecticut College

New London, Connecticut – Junior Savanah Phillips scored nine goals to lead the Wittenberg University Women's Water Polo team in a 15-12 victory over host Connecticut College in a back draw semifinal match of the 2019 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships on Saturday inside the Jane Cadwell Lott '36 Natatorium. With the win the Tigers will now square off against Grove City (PA) on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the CWPA fifth-place match.

Trailing 2-1 with 6:44 left in the second quarter, Wittenberg pulled away from the Camels with five goals in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. The Tigers than erupted for seven goals in the third quarter, before securing the 15-12 win with two more goals in the fourth quarter.

Junior Savanah Phillips once again led the offensive attack for the Tigers with nine total goals, while freshman Tatum Bruno also notched a hat trick with exactly three goals. Closing out the scoring for Wittenberg in the match was freshman Calista Spring with two goals and classmate Emma Menjivar with one.

Freshman Anya Bennett was once solid once again in the cage for the Tigers as she finished the game with 10 total saves.
