Tigers Pick Up Close Finishes Against Ravens

Springfield, OH- The Tigers were back home for a non-conference match-up with the Ravens of Anderson University. The Tigers had an eventful day putting up eleven first place finishes on the day. The men were able to pick up 104 points to beat out Anderson by 22 points and give them their first win of the 2019-20 season. The women had strong finishes but were unable to keep up with the Ravens who put up 122 points compared to the Tigers 72.  

The Women: The women kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 400 yard medley relay, the team was made up of Michelle Murray, Abby Dunasky, Marita Banta-Long and Bridget Logan. The crew finished with a time of 4:27.67. Dunasky picked up another second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.26 and a first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a 5:38.59 finish. The Tigers picked up a first, third and fourth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with Claire Bergefurd coming in first with a time of 27.01. Following Bergefurd was Michelle Murray in third, finishing at 27.80 and Vivianne Osswaarde in forth at 30.36. Murray came back later to pick up a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle and a time of 59.68. Following Murray in the 100 yard freestyle was Meggie Suffoletta with a time of 1:02.69. Marita Banta-Long grabbed a first place finish for the Tigers in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing at 2:27.85 and another first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:43.30.

The Men: The men took the top three spots in the 1000 yard freestyle with Anthony Petruzzi leading the way with a time of 10:56.34. In second place for the 1000 yard freestyle was Nick Angeli with a time of 11:44.55, followed by Ryan Heighton at 11:55.85. Heighton was able to grab another third place finish later in the day in the 500 yard freestyle and a time of 5:44.92. Picking up a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle was Drew Suffoletta with a time of 1:56.25. Brad Barren picked up the next first place finish for the men in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.46 and would come back later for another first place finish but this time in the 100 yard freestyle and a time of 49.42. Lukas Lindberg was able to pick up points for Wittenberg in third place and time of 52.68 in the 100 yard freestyle. Continuing the first place streak would be freshman, Sam Dudley, with a 2:07.71 finish in the 200 yard IM. Following Dudley was Anthony Petruzzi in second place and a time of 2:09.36. Dudley would come back later in the day to pick up a first place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a finishing time of 2:18.96. Petruzzi gave Wittenberg a first place finish yet again with a 5:16.02 finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

Up Next: The Tigers will be back in action at home on Friday, January 24th to recognize Nick Angeli, Marita Banta-Long, Brad Barren, Claire Bergefurd, and Drew Suffoletta on their Senior Day. Wittenberg will take on Centre College at 6:00 PM.
