Tigers Fall Victim to Turnover Bug in Loss Versus Sewanee

Sewanee, TN -- The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team took their first spring break game to the Sewanee Tigers in Tennessee. The Red and White out hustled and played to the Sewanee level, but unfortnately were unable to come out victorious, falling 14-5. 

Wittenberg came out swinging in the first two quarters tallying 11 total shots. After the first quater, Wittenberg applied pressure on both sides scoring three to Sewanee's four, putting the score at nine to four. Wittenberg was able to hold Sewanee to just two with their one after the third quarter, but ultimately were held scoreless in the fourth. 

Sophomore Kelly Mamula hit the net first for Wittenberg on a free possession keeping the score close at 3-1. Tallying 35 total shots, the Red and White took advantage of their defense, 10 coming from sophomore Jessica Flick, who also had two goals, both in the second quarter. With heavy pressure from junior Emily Wadds and senior Allie Ormsby in the back, Wittenberg forced 18 turnovers with Wadds grabbing five ground balls and three caused turnovers and Ormsby with three ground balls and one caused turnover. In front of the net, Freshman Sidney Sheridan faced 16 shots, getting her stick over seven. Freshman Gabrielle Weckerly covered the net for the second half, facing 11 shots and saving five.

Up Next- Wittenberg will travel to Birmingham-Southern Friday, March 11, to play the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. central time.
