Tigers Grab Second Victory of 2022 Season

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to action on Edwards-Maurer field today for a non-conference match-up against the Franklin Grizzlies. The Tigers were able to dominate in the first half of play with six goals in the first quarter and four in the second to give them a comfortable lead heading into the second half of play. After adding six more goals to their total, the Red & White were able to pull off a 16-4 victory to improve their season record to a split 2-2.

Wittenberg was able to go the entire first quarter with six unanswered goals. Getting things started for the Tigers was Jessica Flick with two back-to-back goals, one being when Wittenberg was down a player. Flick tallied two more goals in the first quarter, picking up her hat trick early in play. Also hitting the back of the net in the first quarter were Kelly Mamula, assisted from Grace Kennedy and Grace Hehman off of a free position shot. Wittenberg found a large portion of their goals off of free position shots in their last game against Anderson and would find more success from the 8-meter with a 100% success rate, going 4-4. The second quarter didn't slow the Tigers down, adding four goals with three of those coming from Mya Wolfe with one assisted by Kelly Mamula. Katie Wadds would add one more to the score board to end the second quarter with a 10-1 lead. Jessica Flick got back in on the action in the third quarter with two more goals to bring her total to six on the day. Flick currently has 17 goals on the season and is leading the NCAC in goals. Joining Flick and adding to the Red & White's total in the third were Grace Hehman, Antavia Horne, and Grace Kennedy off of an assist from Mya Wolfe. Grace Kennedy put the final point on the board for Wittenberg in the fourth quarter for a final score of 16-4. Splitting time in the goal for the Tigers were Sidney Sheridan and Joanna Stecz. The pair didn't see as much action in today's match but tallied four saves after facing eight shots.

Wittenberg Leaders- Wittenberg led in ground balls on the day, clears, draw controls and free position goals. Leading in ground balls were for the Tigers was Grace Kennedy with six. The Tigers had seven different individuals score, being led by Jessica Flick with six goals, followed by Mya Wolfe with three. Zoe Chirumbolo McKee led the Red & White in draw controls with seven on the day.

Up Next- Wittenberg will travel to Ohio Northern for their first road match of the year. The Tigers will take on the Polar Bears at 7PM on March 2nd.
