Tigers Pick up Win on Senior Day

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University women's basketball team hosted the College of Wooster Fighting Scots for Senior Day from Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers pick up the win with the final score of 67-36 to improve to 18-6 (11-4 NCAC) on the year. 

Wittenberg would win the opening tip-off and it was all Tigers from there. The Tigers started the game on an 8-0 run thanks to Riley Culver's quick four points and never looked back. Culver led the Tigers with six points in the first quarter going 3-3 on FG to go along with two rebounds and one assist. The Tigers went on an 11-0 scoring run late in the first to make the score 24-8 after one-quarter of play. 

The Tigers extended their lead over the Fighting Scots in the second quarter behind Abigail Yunker's five pointsYunker finished with thirteen points, four rebounds, and four assists on the afternoon. The Tigers shot 53.1 percent from the field in the first half. The Tigers saw their biggest lead of the first half coming at the 1:08 mark in the second quarter and would go into halftime with a 37-16 lead. 

The Tigers came out hot in the second half with Kristie Kalis adding a couple of three-pointers of her own. The Tigers knocked three-three pointers in the third quarter going 3-7, good for a 42.9% from deep. At the 7:13 mark of the third quarter, the Tigers watched as their lead grew to thirty points and entered the fourth quarter up 52-31. 

The Fighting Scots tried to make one last effort coming down the stretch, but it just wasn't enough as the Tigers saw their lead increase to thirty-four, the biggest of the game. The defense was the key factor in the end as the Tigers held the Fighting Scots to thirty-six points in the game. The Tigers also saw four players in double digits in the scoring column including BernerKalisCulver, and Yunker. 

Key Players – Korynne Berner led the way for the Tigers with eighteen points, eight rebounds, and one assist while shooting 7-9 from the field and 4-4 from the line. Kalis led the Tigers in rebounds and steals with nine total rebounds and four steals.  

NCAC Leaders – Culver and Berner come in at two and three in the NCAC for FG Percentage with 50.0% and 48.7%. Delaney Williams also ranks second in the NCAC in steals with 2.5 steals per game. 

Up Next – The Tigers will travel to Oberlin College for the final road trip of the 2019-20 regular season next Saturday, February 22nd for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
