Hard Fought Battle Ends In Loss

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg met DePauw for the twenty-eighth time in program history for another conference match-up. The 3-3 Wittenberg Tigers had a tough battle against the 6-1 DePauw Tigers in the night ahead. Prior to tonight's game Wittenberg led the match-up in field goal percentage and assists per game with 14.5. Junior Kristie Kalis and Senior Korynne Berner lead the team in shooting, averaging a combined 23.8 points per game. Kalis and fellow senior Riley Culver lead the team in ball control with a combined 76 rebounds this season. The three statistical leaders are not only leading the team but are front runners in the NCAC.

Berner is currently number five in the NCAC for FG%, Kalis is number three in the NCAC for blocks, and Culver is number ten in the NCAC for rebounds.

Berner was able to get the Tigers on the board first with an assist from Culver. DePauw controlled the ball after but fell into shot clock violations for two possessions. Wittenberg stayed focused to stay close but went into the second quarter down 16-11. The Tigers came back in the second quarter, putting up twenty-one points to close the gap to 34-32 going into the half. The Tigers stayed consistent with DePauw in the third quarter, putting up ten points, two blocks and two steals. A determined Wittenberg team stayed in the game, trailing by only a few points at a time. After a tough battle the Tigers were unable to overcome DePauw and fell 70-55.

Key Players: Nora Hopkins was able to give Wittenberg momentum in the second quarter after putting up two 3 pointers to give the Tigers their first lead of the night. Delaney Williams was able to handle DePauw's defense to put up seventeen points while Berner led the team in rebounds with a total of eleven.

Wittenberg will face off against DePauw again this season in January.
