Dominant Defense Carries Tigers to Big Win

Springfield, OH -- The Wittenberg men's volleyball team took home a big victory versus the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 25-17). In the electric victory, the Tigers mastered the front row defense with 23 blocks and held the back line with 42 digs. Sophomore Kurt Klamfoth led the blocks with nine assisted blocks with one solo block, and junior Dominic Melchiorre not far back with eight blocks. Holding down the back line, senior Russ Burke collected 14 of the 42 total digs. Six of the eight total Tigers tallied two or more digs with Melchiorre taking 11. 

On the offensive, the Red and White made 109 kill attempts with 47 successful and a kill percentage of .303. Heavy-hitter Melchiorre sent the ball over the net 35 times tallying 22 successful points, which now sets the record for most kills in a four set match. Freshman Luke Teters proved himself with eight kills and two assisted blocks. Also getting touches on all sides of net, junior Chris Goertz had seven kills, seven digs, and eight assisted blocks. 

The Tigers remain at home for a match Saturday, March 5, at 1:00 p.m against the Purple Raiders of Mount Union.
