Tigers Go Undefeated Over the Weekend

Decatur, Ill and Crawfordsville, IN -- Over the weekend, the Wittenberg Men's Volleyball team traveled to Millikin University Saturday and stopped at Wabash on their way back Sunday sweeping both teams in three sets. The Tigers defeated Millikin 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 and Wabash 25-20, 26-24, 25-21. The Tigers combined for 204 attack attempts on the weekend with an average kill percentage of .277 from both matches. Versus Millikin, Wittenberg had 45 total kills, 12 from junior Dominic Melchiorre and 10 from senior Russ Burke. Not far behind was junior Chris Goertz collecting eight attacks and seven digs. The Tigers held their error count to just 16 and 95 total attempts. Graduate Aaron Giorgi carried the middle 57 assists combined for both matches, 28 from the first meeting. On the defensive, freshman Ethan Archer totaled 11 digs versus Millikin and four against Wabash. 

Melchiorre lead the offense versus Wabash with 37 kill attempts and 14 successful. Burke took to the back row with seven digs and six assists while Goertz supported the front with 10 kills. Bring the defense to the front, sophomore Kurt Klamfoth tallied three solo blocks and two digs while adding six kills.

The Tigers will be back home for the Wittenberg Triangular Sunday, February, 27 versus Marian at 11:00 a.m. and Trine at 3:00 p.m.
