Tigers Split Weekend in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA -- The men's volleyball team traveled to the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where the Tigers went 1-1 winning their first match 3-1 against the Thiel College Tomcats and falling 3-0 versus the Nazareth Golden Flyers. The Tigers took down the Tomcats with an offense heavy attack closing the match 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22. The Red and White attempted 130 kills with a kill percentage of .262 and 57 total successful hits. Leading the was with success was junior Dominic Melchiorre with 17 kills and 27 attempts. Not far behind was freshman Jack Boone with 28 attempts and 14 successful kills. Having a touch on every rally, graduate Aaron Giorgi had 49 of the 52 total assists, tying for the second most assists in a four-set match. Carrying the defense was senior Russ Burke with 11 digs and junior Chris Goertz with 10 adding to the 53 total digs. Burke also had a hand in the offense with 12 successful hits.

The Tigers fell in a close match against the Golden Flyers 25-22, 25-20, 25-11. Wittenberg played the defensive collecting 37 digs with 10 coming from freshman libero Aaron Miller. The Tigers had 96 total kill attempts with 28 successful. Setting the middle was once again Giorgi with 22 assists fo the total 27. 

The Red and White will be back in action at Penn State - Altoona Sunday, February 6, at 12 p.m.
