Tigers Sweep Weekend Against Medaille & D'Youville

Buffalo, NY – The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team hit the road to take on Medaille College and D'Youville University in pivotal Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchups on the weekend. Wittenberg swept the weekend, taking both matches in straight sets first taking down Medaille 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-16). The Tigers would then move on to make quick work of D'Youville, picking up their second win of the day with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-23) win.

Medaille Match Breakdown

Wittenberg was led by Jackson Tyler to start the day, putting down 11 kills on 28 total attack attempts with just three errors, leading to a .286 hitting percentage. James Trowbridge and Dominic Melchiorre each posted a .500 hitting marker to start the day. Trowbridge tallied 6 kills on 10 swings with just one error. Melchiorre added 5 kills on 8 attack attempts. Noah Wissel recorded 30 of Wittenberg's 32 assists on the day, adding four digs and a block to his credit. The Tigers posted a .310 hitting percentage on the day, putting down 34 kills on 71 swings. Wittenberg was out-hit in just one set of the match, as the Tigers ended the match putting together their best set of 12 kills on 25 total attacks with just two errors for a .400 attacking percentage.

D'Youville Match Breakdown

Wittenberg continued their momentum into the second match of the day, making quick work of D'Youville. The Red and White finished with a .282 hitting percentage, putting down 36 kills on 85 total attacks. Wittenberg presented a balanced attack, as Tyler, Trowbridge and Russell Burke each finished with eight kills. The Tigers were a defensive force, holding D'Youville to -.103 hitting percentage in the first set. Wittenberg would not let D'Youville hit above .100 in each of the final two sets of the match, holding the Spartans to a .000 hitting marker on the day. Melchiorre posted the team-high .571 attacking percentage, adding 5 kills on 7 swings with just one error to go along with two blocks upfront.

"We are very happy to get two conference wins on the road, especially both being 3-0 sweeps. We worked hard in practice this week, executed our game plan well and it was good to see it pay off," said Head Coach Ryan Thompson.

UP NEXT

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, March 21 to host the AMCC Quad from Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers will start the weekend slate against Penn. St.- Behrend at 1:00 PM, following up with a match against Thiel College at 3:30 PM. The Tigers will return to action on Sunday, March 22, celebrating Senior Day at 12:00 PM, taking on Penn. St.- Altoona.
