Tigers Win In Straight Sets Over PSU-Altoona

Altoona, Pa. – The Wittenberg men's volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) win from PSU-Altoona in the final day of an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tri-match weekend. The Tigers logged a .317 hitting percentage on the day, planting 48 kills on 101 total attacks. Collin Buelow led the Tiger attack with 12 kills on the afternoon, recording a .280 hitting percentage, adding one ace and four digs. Wittenberg moves into second place in the AMCC standings with an overall record of 11-6 and moving to 4-1 in conference action.

Game Breakdown

It was an even match through the early going as the Tigers tallied a .462 hitting percentage in the first set. The Red and White recorded 15 kills on 26 attempts with just three errors. Wittenberg managed to jump out to a narrow two-point lead to start out, extending their advantage out to 15-12 after a kill by Ashton Sellers. Wittenberg had to fend off a late PSU-Altoona attack, holding on for the 25-22 win after the Lions committed the error. The Tigers had to overcome a Lions lead in the second set, regaining the lead and taking a 13-9 advantage. The Red and White held on to take the second set by a final score of 25-23, posting a .300 attacking percentage with 19 kills on 40 attack attempts. Wittenberg closed out the match by holding the Lions to a -.077 hitting percentage, allowing just five PSU-Altoona attacks to land and forcing seven errors. The Tigers ended with 14 kills coming on 35 total attacks for a .229 attacking percentage.

Who Stood Out

Jackson Tyler added 11 kills to the Tiger offense, logging a team-high .733 attacking percentage. Sellers finished the match with 10 kills while adding four blocks. Ross Russell tallied 25 assists on the afternoon to go along with a team-high seven digs. Noah Wissel added 15 assists with three digs.
