Tigers Found Success at Snow Globe Open

Columbus, OH -- The Tigers traveled to Otterbeing University for their first meet of the year at the Snow Globe Open. Wittenberg faced off against familiar foes in Heidelberg, Otterbein, Denison, Ohio Dominican, Rio Grande, Capital, and new faces from Wheeling, Thomas More, and Ohio Christian. The men's team had multiple top place finishers from the usual suspects. Sophomore Ian McCandlish took first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.97. Freshman Justin Norris took the top spot in high jump with a height of 1.86 M. Staying in field events, freshman Sam Callinan hit a height of 4 M in pole vault for first place, while senior Rodney Van Cleaf tied for sixth in weight throw, throwing 13.25 M. In the 500 meter dash freshman Andrew Cades came in with a time of 1:10.33. Coming in top eight for two events, freshman Conor Kolka finished the 3000 meter with a time of 8:59.45 for third place and a time of 4:26.78 in the mile for seventh place. The Tigers had usual faces in the short races, graduate student Garrin Bachinski finishing fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds while freshman Matthew Drovdlic also came in fifth in the 60 meter dash clocking 7.20 seconds.

The 4x400 meter race contained two teams of red and white, both squads taking the top two spots in an electric race. The first place team consisted of graduate student Zach Guyer, freshman Matt RogersCades, and McCandlish. The second team roster held sophomore Ezekiel Bennett, freshman Jack HouckDrovdlic, and Callinan. The two teams competed against each other, coming in with less than .1 seconds between them, first place clocking 3:38.66 and second place 3:38.72.

The women's side held a stat line of nine different top six placements, three of which were first place finishes. The team is lead by a group of young athletes with six of the top finishings coming from Freshmen and one sophomore. Coming in at sixth in the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Reese Neumeyer finished with a time of 9.97 seconds while also finishing in fourth in pole vault with a jump of 2.72 M. Freshman Lindsey Magoteaux finished fourth in the 60 meter dash at 8.06 seconds, while also competing on the frist place 4x200 meter dash squad. This roster consisted of all freshmen, Kyngston CollinsMeghan FrazierNeumeyer, and Magoteaux for a time of 1:51.82. Taking the top four of five spots in the one mile race, freshman Megan Keys lead the way finishing with a time of 5:29.63. Not far behind was senior Lauren Welker at 5:30.46 in second place and in third was sophomore Corin Turkovich with a time of 5:31.46. In fifth place was senior Elizabeth Canright clocking in at 5:53.61. In field events, sophomore Hannah Schartz jumped to first place with a height of 1.62 M in high jump and sophomore McKenna Bruce tallied a second place finish in the weight throw, throwing 13.54 M.

The Tigers will be heading up to Wooster on Saturday, January, 22 for the Wooster Fighting Scots Invitational.
