Tigers Close Out Regular Season With 7-2 Win Over Otterbein

Dayton, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Men's Tennis Team reached the 11-win plateau for the first time since the 2013-14 season on Friday as the Tigers closed out regular season play with a 7-2 win over Otterbein in non-conference action at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Dayton. The Tigers will now take an overall record of 11-8 into next weekend's NCAC Tournament, set to be held at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 26-28.

Who Stood Out

The Tigers stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the match by picking up victories on all three doubles courts, highlighted by the duo of senior Kieren Thomas and rookie Joe Patton grinding out an 8-6 win in the third flight. The senior duo of Martin Mora and Luke Minard were victorious in the top flight by an 8-3 margin, while the tandem of senior Timmy McNulty and freshman Gavin Tay finished as 8-1 winners in the second flight.  

Wittenberg kept its momentum rolling right into singles play as the Tigers won four of the six singles matches, highlighted by Mora and Tay picking up victories in the top two flights. Mora was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Brandon Wall in the top flight, while Tay picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Connor Radune in the second flight.

After Patton lost a heartbreaking 7-5, 7-5 decision in the third flight against Tyler Wharton, the Tigers went on to get victories from McNulty and Minard in the fourth and fifth flights, respectively. McNulty picked up a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Tom Ohler in the fourth position, while Minard cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Derek Krieger in the fifth spot.

In addition, Thomas closed out play for the Tigers by dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Riley Yost in the sixth and final flight.
