OBERLIN, Ohio - After spotting the Oberlin Yeomen a first-half goal, the Wittenberg Tigers buttoned things up defensively and got it in gear offensively in the second half to pull out a 2-1 win at Oberlin.
Oberlin was credited with 10 shots in the game, compared to six for the Tigers. The game was played on a cold, rainy day in northern Ohio.
Wittenberg, which improved to 6-3-3 overall and, more importantly, 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, got two saves against one goal from junior keeper Adam Horrocks. The Tigers picked up goals from freshmen Mark Cain and Matt Borland, with Borland's being the game-winner with just eight minutes remaining in the game. Freshman Justin Jenkins was credited with the assist on Cain's goal, with Borland's going into the books off a feed from Cain. It was the biggest scoring output of Cain's fledgling collegiate career.
Wittenberg kept pace in the NCAC heading into a crucial confrontation with nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Delaware, Ohio.
