Tigers Tally First Win In Conference Match-Up

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to Edwards-Maurer Field for their third conference match-up of the year. The Tigers who were 0-2 in conference play heading into the game looked to pick up their first win of the season over the Terriers of Hiram College. With four quarters of dominating offense from the Red & White, Wittenberg ended with a 22-1 win.

Wittenberg was able to get on the board first and shut down Terrier offense in the first quarter. The Tigers had four different individuals score five goals including Holton Boehmer, Ben Holland from Noah Mackin, Connor Matthews, and Noah Mackin with two goals of his own for a 5-0 advantage heading into the second quarter. Holton Boehmer went back-to-back to start the second quarter with one assisted from Connor Matthews and the second coming right off of the face-off. Kody Gould got on the board with an assist from Matthews and Zach Busby put one up to end the half with a 9-1 lead.

The third quarter brought the most goals from Wittenberg with eight getting by Hiram's goalie. The list of scoring power includes Holton Boehmer with an assist from Nathan Brown, Mitchell Steinker from Ben Holland, Julio Novarini off of Zach Busby, Noah Mackin from Ben Holland, Noah Mackin again while man down, and Zach Busby along with Nathan Brown each with a goal of their own. Heading into the final quarter, Wittenberg had a comfortable 17-1 lead. Holland put up three more goals in the final quarter with two being assisted by Kody Gould. Novarini and Brown would also add one more goal each to give the Tigers a final score of 22-1.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had ten different individuals score, being led by the trio of Holton Boehmer, Noah Mackin, and Ben Holland with four goals each. Max Benincasa led in ground balls picking up eight on the day with two caused turnovers. On the face-off for Wittenberg were Luke Stanfield with 14 wins on the day and Johnny Banks with three. Stepping in goal for the first time was Max Schillig who faced eight shots with seven saves on the day.

NCAC Leaders- Wittenberg has three guys in the top ten for statistics in the NCAC. Ben Holland is at number six in the conference for goals with 22. Holland continues to lead the NCAC in points tied at number seven with 34 points. In face-off success, Luke Stanfield lands at number nine going 65-118. On the defensive end, Mario Lorelli lands at number five in the NCAC for caused turnovers with 20 on the season. (All statistics are based prior to today's match-up.
