Tigers Fall to Top Twenty Blue Streaks

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to Edwards-Maurer field for a match-up against a top twenty ranked John Carroll team under the lights. The Tigers tallied sixteen goals against the #14 ranked Blue Streaks, with their most impressive quarter being in the third period. After battling out four quarter Wittenberg fell 21-16.

John Carroll was able to get on the board first with two goals before senior Noah Mackin was able to answer with an assist from Ben Holland. Tying the game early 2-2 was Connor Matthews with Wittenberg's second goal of the game off of an assist from Nathan Brown. Both teams continued to go back and forth with another goal for each to tie the game 3-3. The Tigers goal came from Julio Novarini who was fed from Luke Stanfield. The Blue Streaks were able to get on the board two more times to head into the second quarter with a 5-3 lead. The Tigers put up four goals in the second quarter from four different players. Getting things started was Noah Mackin, assisted by Nicholas Langenderfer. Following was Connor Matthews, Holton Boehmer, and Ben Holland all unassisted. The Red & White fell behind heading into the half with a 12-7 score.

The third quarter was Wittenberg's highest scoring quarter with five goals. Julio Novarini tabbed his second goal of the game and third of the season to give the Tigers their seventh goal of the game. Ben Holland also came back in the third quarter with his second goal of the game unassisted. Also getting on the board in the third was Nicholas Langenderfer with his third goal of the season and Noah Mackin with a hat trick on the day. Wittenberg was able to outscore John Carroll in the fourth quarter with goals from Kody Gould (2), Holton Boehmer, and Nicholas Langenderfer. Despite Wittenberg's best efforts in the final quarter, John Carroll was able to take the game with a 21-16 score.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had eight different individuals score, being led by Noah Mackin with three goals, while Mario Lorelli led in caused turnovers with three, and Julio Novarini picked up six ground balls. Leading in goal for Wittenberg was Brandon Shevins with ten saves on the day after facing 30 shots on goal.
