Holland Picks Up Hat-Trick Against Pioneers

Lexington, KY- Wittenberg headed to Lexington, Kentucky for their first road game of the 2022 season to compete against the Pioneers of Transylvania University. The out-of-state rivalry started in 2014 and the Tigers have met the Pioneers on the turf five times since. After a tough four quarters and 12-9 loss, the series is tied with both teams picking up three wins over the years.

Wittenberg got their first point on the board at the 8:26 mark with a goal from Noah Mackin off of an assist by Nathan Brown. The assist marks the freshman's first of his collegiate career and second point of the season. The Tigers went back-to-back with their second goal coming from Ben Holland, his sixth of the season. Holland went on to pick up a hat-trick after scoring in the second and fourth quarter. The Red & White put one more point on the board in the first quarter from Nathan Brown but headed into the second quarter down 4-3. Wittenberg tied the game 4-4 to start the second quarter with an unassisted goal from Kody Gould. Gould got back in the action with an assist to Noah Mackin to mark the Tigers fifth goal. Wittenberg went on to get two more goals in the second quarter from Ben Holland and Nicholas Langenderfe with Langenderfe assisting Holland and Gould assisting Langenderfe. A tight game put the Tigers in the locker room with a one-point difference and Wittenberg down 8-7.

The third quarter was the most challenging for both offenses. Wittenberg got things started with a man-up opportunity to tie the game 8-8. Holton Boehmer picked up his first goal of the season with an assist from Mitchell Steinker. Transylvania was able to get ahead once again and kept one up on the Tigers heading into the final quarter of play. Ben Holland picked up his hat-trick and Wittenberg's final goal of the game unassisted to end the game with a 12-9 score.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had six different individuals score, being led by Ben Holland with three goals, while Kody Gould led in assists with two, and Luke Stanfield picked up five ground balls. In goal for Wittenberg was Brandon Shevins with fourteen saves on the day after facing 26 shots on goal.
