Tigers Topple Terriers From The Road

Hiram, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team hit the road to take on Hiram College, taking down the Terriers 19-6 in the NCAC showdown. The Tiger offense exploded in the first half, taking a 13-0 lead into the break. As Wittenberg dominated the opening half, the Red and White tallied 33 shots to the Terriers 17. Noah Moderwell led the Tiger offense with four goals on the afternoon, placing six shots on goal, while adding six ground ball pick-ups.

Game Breakdown

The Tigers opened up the scoring on the Matthew Welch goal, coming off the Connor Rice assist. Jerry Coyle followed up just two minutes later with his own unassisted goal, taking the Tiger advantage out to 2-0. Back-to-Back Moderwell goals with the first being assisted by Welch help extend the Wittenberg lead out to 4-0. Wittenberg took advantage of the Hiram penalty, as Michael Carluccio found the back of the net off the Moderwell assist. With under 10 seconds remaining in the first period, Lucas Klever found Andrew Ellis for the sixth Wittenberg goal. Opening up the second period, Klever found the back of the Hiram goal for the unassisted score, taking the Tiger advantage out to 7-0. Wittenberg kept the offense coming with six straight goals before the break, taking the 13-0 lead into the break. Coyle completed his own hat trick, scoring the first Tiger goal of the second half and giving Wittenberg the 14-1 advantage. Wittenberg found the back of the net twice more before the end of the third period, coming from Klever and Moderwell. Wittenberg would go on to add three more goals in the final quarter to seal the win, at 19-6.

Who Stood Out

Jack Vierra caused three Hiram turnovers while picking up six ground balls on the afternoon. Nick Medley, Tony Lebarge and Coyle each caused two Terrier turnovers. Coyle added six ground ball pick-ups.
