No. 10 Tiger Men's Golf Take Second At NCAA DIII Preview

Nicholasville, KY – After 72-holes of competition, the No. 10 Wittenberg Men's Golf team secures a T2 finish from the NCAA DIII Preview held at the Keene Trace Golf Club. The Tigers jumped up six spots on the final day, with a three-day score of 900 (+36). Wittenberg trailed only No. 5 Christopher Newport with the Captains posting a final 72-hole score of 886 (+22).

Nicklaus Pidgeon led the Tiger effort, carding rounds of 74-78-72, finishing the tournament with a 72-hole score of 224 (+8). Pidgeon dropped in four birdies on the front-nine over the final 18-holes. After starting with three on day one, Pidgeon tallied nine over the course of the competition. Wittenberg led the field with 45 birdies on the weekend.

JF Aber and Evan DiSanto closed out the preview with T15 finishes, posting 72-hole scores of 225 (+9). After an opening-round 71, Aber carded rounds of 79-75 over the final two days. The top five finisher from last year's NCAA National Championship event rolled in back-to-back birdie putts, taking him to three-over on the day. DiSanto started the weekend with six birdies on his card for an opening round of 74 (E). Posting a 79 (+5) on day two, DiSanto started day-three with a birdie on his first hole of the day, adding four more to his tally.

Matthew Mattioli jumped up six spots on the final day, landing inside the top 25, carding rounds of 78-76-73 for a 72-hole score of 227 (+11). Mattioli toted his best round of the weekend, rolling in five birdies, with three on the front-nine and two on the back.

Wittenberg found themselves in a T2 position with, No. 1 Methodist University, No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and No. 13 Washington & Lee. Other notable nationally ranked schools amongst the field included, No. 2 Emory placing sixth, No. 6 Piedmont placing seventh, No. 11 Oglethorpe and No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan finishing T8. Rounding out the top 10, No. 12 Sewanee earned a 10th place finish.

Wittenberg will return to action, October 10-11 at the Wabash Invitational from the Broadmoor Golf Club.
