Fourth-Ranked Tigers Close Out Fall at Kyle Ryman Memorial

Tiffin, Ohio The fourth-ranked Wittenberg University Men's Golf team put a bow on the fall portion of its 2019-20 season by finishing in a tie for second out of 11 teams over the past two days at the Tiffin University Kyle Ryman Memorial, played at the par-72, 6,685-yard Mohawk Golf & Country Club. The Tigers tied for second with NCAA Div. II member Findlay in the event that featured several opponents from Div. II. 

The Tigers finished the 54-hole tournament with a team score of 878 after carding rounds of 291, 286 and 301, while host Tiffin won the team title by five strokes over the Red and White with a team score of 873 (289-288-296).  

Three of Wittenberg's five team scoring golfers finished inside the top-10 in the individual standings at the event that featured 87 total golfers, led by junior Christopher Dunne placing second overall with a 54-hole score of 216 (71-72-73). In Dunne's opening round 71, he posted four birdies on his card, which included a string of back-to-back birdies on holes seven and eight. Overall, he finished the two-day, 54-hole event with 10 total birdies and 34 pars to finish at even-par overall with 216 total strokes. 

Following Dunne in the individual standings was the duo of senior Ryan Mallette and freshman Evan DiSanto in a five-way tie for sixth with 221 strokes each. Mallette bookended rounds of 73 and 79 by firing one of just two sub-70 rounds in the event with a three-under par score of 69 in the second round, while DiSanto played consistent over the two days with scores of 74, 73 and 74.  

To round of the scoring players for Wittenberg at Tiffin, junior Daniel Castleberry finished as part of a seven-way tie for 13th with a 224 (73-72-79), while senior Cameron Willis was part of a seven-way tie for 43rd with a 233 (81-77-75). 

Wittenberg also had five players compete as individuals at the event, led by freshman AJ Cherubini finishing as part of a five-way tie for 21st with 226 total strokes (78-72-76). The four additional individual performers included sophomore Will Birkholz tying for 50th with a 236 (76-78-82), freshman William McDavid tying for 60th with a 245 (82-81-82), freshman Christian Tomak tying for 63rd with a 246 (88-80-78) and senior Curtis Salmans tying for 71st with a 254 (78-82-94).  

The Tigers will now put their clubs away for the Winter, before returning to the course in early March on their annual Spring Break Trip in Georgia and South Carolina.
