October 8th, 2004: Men's Golf Fall Review

Andy Bonar

The Wittenberg men's golf team had a disappointing conclusion to what had been a tremendous fall season, finishing seventh out of 10 teams at the Mount Union Invitational last weekend. That tournament put the finishing touches on the fall season.

Playing against another strong field, the Tigers were in the running after Day 1 with a fourth-place score of 307. However, Day 2 didn't go nearly as well as the Tigers shot a 321, their lowest one-day total of the fall season, to drop to seventh place.

Wittenberg was paced by senior Andy Bonar (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster), who finished in a three-way tie for second place at 150. The Tigers' other three scorers in the tournament were consistent, but they didn't turn in cards with low enough marks to get the team in the running for the title. Junior Dane Sandridge (Westfield Center, Ohio/Lodi Cloverleaf), sophomore Kris Schmelzer (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) and sophomore Scott Aker (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) posted scores of 159, 159 and 160 respectively.

The Tigers will be back in competition next spring, starting with a Spring Break trip in mid-March. A full spring season schedule will be online soon.
