Tigers Overtake Ohio Wesleyan For Key NCAC Road Win

Delaware, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger men's basketball team edged out a pivotal NCAC win over the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday evening, 77-71. The Tigers were led by senior Levi Boettcher, posting a career-high 24 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field and knocking down all four of his attempts from three-point land. Boettcher and Landon Martin would lead the Wittenberg rebounding effort, reeling in six boards apiece on the night. Martin provided 16 points for the Red and White, along with Trey Killens adding 13 from the reserves.

The Tigers had to overcome a five-point deficit at the half, trailing Ohio Wesleyan 35-30 at the break. Wittenberg converted on 35 percent shooting from the floor, with Boettcher leading Wittenberg scorers with 11 points. In the tale of two halves for the Tigers, Wittenberg came out of the break knocking down 14 of 25 attempts from the floor. Harrison Gough would play a crucial role down the stretch for the Red and White, posting eight points and six rebounds in the final 20 minutes of action. The Tigers took care of business in nearly all major statistical categories, as the true difference came at the free-throw line and points off turnovers, this is where Wittenberg was able to capitalize on the Ohio Wesleyan miscues.

NCAC LEADERS

Boettcher has worked his way into the Top 20 in the NCAC in rebounds, averaging 5.5 per contest. Shooting just over 51 percent in 10 games this season, Tolliver has secured his spot in the Top 10 in the NCAC for field goals. Ridge Young continues to hold strong as a top two three-point shooter in the league, converting on 44 percent from beyond the arc.
