DANVILLE, Ky. — A second-half rally failed to produce an equalizing goal as the Wittenberg Tigers dropped the second game of a busy weekend twinbill, falling 2-1 at Centre less than 24 hours after winning by the same score at Kenyon.

The loss dropped the youthful Tigers back to .500 at 4-4 overall, while Centre now stands at 5-3. Wittenberg now prepares for the biggest week of the season so far, which includes road trips to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contenders DePauw and Wooster within a span of four days.

The Tigers fell behind 2-0 by halftime as Centre picked up goals approximately 20 minutes apart during a dominant first half. The Colonels outshot Wittenberg 20-4 and attempted 13 penalty corners to the Tigers' three. The efforts of senior goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) kept the game close as she was credited with 15 saves over the first 35 minutes en route to 20 in the game overall. In addition, freshman Kelly McLean (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook South) and sophomore Mallory Skrobot (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) made defensive saves to keep the game within reach.

Still, Wittenberg was within one goal after junior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) found the back of the cage at the 49:33 mark. Senior Darcey Caciano (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) was credited with the assist on the play.

The shots and penalty corners were much more even in the second half, but the Tigers were unable to find another goal to even the score. Morrissey finished with three shots, one less than team leader senior Elizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./LaDue).
