Wittenberg Defense Dominates No. 25 DePauw

Greencastle, IN – With 301-yards of total offense and four interceptions on defense, the Wittenberg Tiger football team took down No. 25 DePauw University, 30-7.

The score was knotted up at 7-7 after one quarter. Capitalizing on the Anthony Pedro interception, Wittenberg found the lead with just under a minute remaining in until the half. Collin Brown completed the six-play 53-yard drive, with a four-yard scamper into the endzone, giving Wittenberg the 14-7 lead at the half. Wittenberg would continue to post a shutout through the final 30-minutes of action. Only allowing two DePauw first downs through the final two-quarters. The Tiger defense added an interception and forced fumble in the third quarter. Grant Hollinger forced the DePauw fumble and loss of 11-yards, causing the safety, giving Wittenberg the 23-7 advantage.

The third-quarter also saw a pair of Bryce Anderson touchdowns. The first scoring drive for Anderson completed an 87-yard, 12-play setup for Wittenberg.

Wittenberg went to the ground attack picking up 230-yards on the ground. Garrett Gross logged his second-consecutive 100-yard rushing game, with 131-yards on the day. Bryce Anderson made his way into the endzone for two Wittenberg scores. Anderson racked up 70-yards on 12 carries, breaking off a long off 23-yards for his second of two scores.

Tony Calovini led the defense with eight tackles, including five solo takedowns. Cameron Snurr added seven takedowns and Conner Walls tallied six. Matt Render tallied two tackles-for-loss with four on the day.

Wittenberg will return to action next Saturday, October 15, hosting Oberlin College for their annual Champions Night. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm from Edwards-Mauer Field.
