Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University football team cruised to a 52-14 win over the Gators of Allegheny College in an NCAC showdown from Edwards-Maurer Field on Saturday afternoon. Wittenberg jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead, through the first quarter and a half of action. The Red and White tallied over 500 total yards of offense on the afternoon, taking a 24-7 advantage into the break. Junior quarterback Bobby Froehlich completed 20-28 passes for 247 yards, including two touchdowns. The Wittenberg defense continues to stand strong, holding the Gators to 216 yards of total offense. The Tiger defense tallied two takeaways on the day, adding a pair of quarterback sacks.

Game Breakdown

Jordan Burkey got things going early, intercepting the first pass of the game and getting the Tiger offense the ball early in the first quarter. Wittenberg took advantage of the first Allegheny turnover, putting together an 11 play 72-yard drive, capped off with a seven-yard Jaheem Washington touchdown run to open the scoring. Wittenberg added to their lead with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter, as Christian Seger converted on the 36-yard field goal attempt. Wittenberg kept the momentum rolling into the second quarter, putting together a 96-yard seven-play scoring drive, capped off by a Gene Nobles touchdown. Washington added his second touchdown of the day, finding the Allegheny endzone with just under a minute remaining in the half, closing out an 11 play 75-yard scoring drive. The Tigers came out looking to add to their advantage, as Froehlich found Erik Anderson on the 16-yard pitch and catch, to put the Tigers up 31-7. Sam Kayser tallied his first touchdown of the day on the following Tiger possession with a six-yard run, capitalizing on another defensive takeaway in Allegheny territory. Wittenberg added on two more scores in the fourth quarter, as DeShawn Sarley, scampered in on a three-yard touchdown run and Blake King closed out the Tiger scoring effort with a two-yard run.

Tavian Crowe anchored the Wittenberg defensive front with six tackles on the afternoon. Troy Jones and Grant Sparks each added five tackles with a tackle for a loss each to their credit. Four different Tigers logged four tackles with three solo takedowns to their credit, including Michael Fiessinger, Danny Foster, Jonathan Seay and Micah Vann.
