Brian Agler ’80 Named to OHSAA Circle of Champions

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Wittenberg University Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreation, Brian Agler '80, has added yet another accomplishment to his already distinguished professional career as was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association's (OHSAA) Circle of Champions on Saturday, March 19th, during halftime of the Boys Semifinal game.

Brian Agler, also a native of Prospect, Ohio, became the vice president and director of athletics and recreation in January 2021 at his alma mater, Wittenberg University, where, during his playing career, he helped the Tigers win the 1977 NCAA Division III national championship and was an All-American as a senior.

Agler coached women's college basketball for 15 years before moving to the professional ranks for the next 24 years, leading the Columbus Quest to a pair of ABL Championships and the Seattle and Los Angeles to WNBA titles in 2010 and 2016, respectively.

Joining Agler in the 2022 OHSAA Circle of Champions class are Dayton native and two-time Olympic Gold Medal hurdler Edwin Moses, former Major League Baseball umpire Larry Barnett, former Zanesville, Western Carolina and NBA basketball standout Kevin Martin and Cleveland Central Catholic, Ohio State University and WNBA standout Jantel Lavender.

Beginning with the 2006-07 school year in conjunction with the Ohio High School Athletic Association centennial, the OHSAA has selected individuals who had prominent roles in the history of Ohio interscholastic athletics to become members of the OHSAA's Circle of Champions. The honorees not only had outstanding achievements at the high school level, but also have had outstanding achievements after their prep careers ended, have displayed outstanding character and serve as role models.
