Bertemes & Yunker Named SAAC Tigers' of the Month

Each month, members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee select one male and female athlete who embody the core principles of compassion, conviction, and competitiveness to be named Tiger of the Month.

For the month of January, Jake Bertemes from Wittenberg men's basketball and Abigail Yunker of Wittenberg women's basketball have been recognized for their exceptional abilities and impact on the court, and both in the classroom and around the Wittenberg community.

Bertemes, a senior forward from Springfield, OH -- has been the best player on the court this last month of the season for the men's basketball team. He is top 10 in the North Coast Athletic Conference in field goal percentage (50.7%), free throw percentage (81.6%), assists (52), assist to turnover ratio (2.2), and steals (26). Bertemes also earned a 3.9 GPA for the fall semester and regularly volunteers his time at Kenwood Elementary.

Abigail Yunker, a junior guard from Whitehouse, Ohio -- in her six games in the month of December averaged 14.3 points per game, four rebounds per game, three assists per game, adding two steals per game while shooting 50% from the field. Yunker also scored a career-high 23 points against Wilmington College on her way to securing MVP during the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic. Yunker finished the fall semester with a 4.0 GPA and is a supplemental instructor for biology.
