Tigers Run Well In Pre-NCAC Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Wittenberg Tigers got an up-close look at the course where Allegheny will host the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship meet on Saturday, Nov. 2, finishing third on the men's side and fourth on the women's in the five-team Pre-NCAC Invitational.

The host Gators won the men's competition by a comfortable margin over Oberlin. The Yeomen held the runner-up position by a mere three points in the final team standings, followed by Ohio Wesleyan and Marietta.

Wittenberg's men were paced by senior Jacob Kuntz (Versailles, Ky./Woodford) in sixth place with a time of 26:51 on the 8K course. He was followed by freshman Jon Osman (Troy, Ohio/Troy) in eighth in 26:59.

Rounding out the Tiger scorers were freshman Nick Molnar (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) in 14th with a time of 27:46, senior Wade Westbrook (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone) in 21st in 28:01, and junior Adam Kapuscinski (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) in 22nd in 28:02.

On the women's side, Oberlin finished first by a wide margin over Ohio Wesleyan and Allegheny, which were separated by just one point. Wittenberg ended up in fourth place, five points ahead of Marietta in the standings.

Individually, Wittenberg's women were led by freshman Erin Hord (Madison, Ohio/Madison), who claimed 20th place in a time of 25:00 on the 6K course. Senior Maggie McIlvain (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) was next with a time of 25:19, good for 24th place.

Also scoring for the Tigers were junior Deanna Iwanyckyj (Water Mill, N.Y./Southampton) in 35th in a time of 26:06, sophomore Sarah Webb (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) in 40th in 26:20, and freshman Hannah Meier (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) in 43rd in 26:26.
