Wittenberg kicked off the 2011 campaign with solid performances at competitions hosted by the University of Dayton and Ohio Wesleyan University in the first two weeks. Wade Westbrook, class of 2014 from Columbus, Ohio, led the Tiger men at UD and Trevor Grandy, class of 2013 from Dublin, Ohio, was tops at Ohio Wesleyan the following week. Two-time NCAA Division III qualifier Mary Pfeifer, class of 2012 from Dublin, Ohio, paced the women in both meets.

Wittenberg's men's team returned 14 letterwinners in 2011, including six of the seven runners who helped the Tigers to a sixth-place finish in the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship meet at Wabash. The women also returned six of the seven runners who competed in the NCAC and NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region meets a year ago, headlining a corps of 21 returning letterwinners in 2011.
