Wittenberg Keeps Pace With Loaded Field At Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Against primarily Division I and Division II competition, the Wittenberg men's and women's cross country teams raced to strong finishes from Penn State University's Harry Grove Spiked Shoe Invtitational.

 

The men took 11th place, with Gabe Savage (Lewsiburg, OH/Tri-County North) finding himself amongst elite company, collecting a 63rd-place finish in 28:33 on the 5.2 mile course amongst the elite runners. The next five Tigers across the line come from a deep sophomore class, paced byKevin Frick (Columbus, OH/Grandview) who claimed 93rd in 29:29.

On the women's side, the youthful Tigers topped Division I Youngstown State en route to a 10th place finish. Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, MI/Grand Haven) again led the pack, taking 40th on the 6,000 meter course with a time of 23:36. Also competing in their first collegiate 6K were the four freshmen that followed Dubuc across the line, with Anna Henry (Chagrin Falls, OH/Kenston) taking 60th in 24:17.

The Tigers' next competition will be contested at nearby Cedarville on their upper-tier course. Race day is set for Saturday, Sept. 20.
