Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg women's cross country standout Darcy Dubuc, class of 2012 from Grand Haven, Mich., added to her already impressive collegiate resume with 2008 Ohio NCAA Division III Top Freshman Female Athlete honors as selected by cross country coaches from across the state.

Dubuc's honor caps off a year in which the Tigers set new benchmarks in virtually every facet of the program. Most notable among the team's achievements was a fourth-place finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships, the best finish in program history.

Dubuc won the award as the top rookie performer among NCAA Division III student-athletes at the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University on Oct. 10. Her 47th-place finish, including a sixth-place finish among all NCAA Division III runners, helped the Tigers to an eighth-place team finish.

Dubuc won the Wittenberg Invitational on Sept. 6 and landed both All-NCAC and All-Great Lakes Region honors. Her ninth-place finish at the 2008 NCAC Championships at Oberlin on Nov. 1 placed her among three Tiger freshmen to earn All-NCAC honors. Mary Pfeifer, class of 2012 from Dublin, Ohio, was named NCAC Newcomer of the Year after placing fifth, Anna Henry, class of 2012 from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, took sixth to join her on the first team, and Dubuc placed ninth to pick up a second-team award.

Both Dubuc and Pfeifer also finished in the top 35 at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional at Otterbein on Nov. 15, narrowly missing a national championship berths. The team took 11th place overall in the 34-team field, another program best for Tiger women's cross country.

For the season, Wittenberg boasted one of the youngest teams in the country, as the Tigers routinely featured as many as six freshmen in the team's top seven runners. At the conference meet, the team's top six finishers were all in their first year of collegiate competition.
