Tiger Teams Both Finish In Top Two At Wittenberg Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers hosted their annual invitational Saturday at John Bryan State Park in nearby Yellow Springs, Ohio, and when the dust had cleared the host team had fared quite well.

Wittenberg's women captured first place in the five-team event, outdistancing Wilmington by five points and Muskingum comfortably. Thomas More and Central State competed but did not field complete teams.

Wittenberg's men placed second, 14 points behind Wilmington but 16 ahead of Muskingum. Thomas More and Central State finished well back of the lead pack.

The top Tiger finish was turned in by junior Christine Maddox (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg), who finished a career-best second. She covered the five-kilometer course in 21:09. Junior Megan Poling (Medina, Ohio/Highland) and sophomore Katie McIlvain (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) were also top-five finishers.

On the men's side, Wittenberg picked up a fourth-place finish from sophomore Gabe Savage (Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County North), who covered the eight-kilometer course in 29:19. Junior Mike Echols (Springfield, Ohio/North) finished fifth.

The Tigers return to competition Friday at the Augustana Invitational.
