Tiger Men Finish Ninth, Women Seventh In NCAC Championships

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on the 2006 regular season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet at Earlham College on Saturday. The Tiger men placed ninth and the Tiger women moved up one spot from 2005 to finish seventh.

The teams will finish out the season at the 2006 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship meet at Hanover College on Nov. 11. The national championship meet is slated for Nov. 18 at Voice of America Park in Mason, Ohio - hosted by Wilmington College.

The Tiger women were paced by senior Christine Maddox (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg), who crossed the finish line in the six-kilometer race in a time of 26:44 to take 27th place, a career-best. Senior Sarah Yehle (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) and sophomore Abby McCutcheon (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) had matching times of 28:07 as they placed 38th and 39th respectively.

The Tiger men were led by sophomore Ben McCombs (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), who hit the tape in the eight-kilometer race in 29:13. Juniors Mike Wismer (Avon, Ohio/Avon) and Mike Echols (Springfield, Ohio/North) were neck-and-neck, finishing in times of 29:15 and 29:16 to place 38th and 39th respectively.
