The Wittenberg cross country teams ran well in the Friendship Invitational at Cedarville University on Saturday, led by junior Abi Gerstle (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont), who had her best race of the still-young season. Wittenberg's first women's cross country national qualifier a year ago, Gerstle led the Tiger team to an eighth-place finish (best among Division III schools in the field) by finishing eighth with a season-best time of 19:18, which earned her NCAC Runner of the Week honors.
Gerstle was joined in the top 10 by senior Sarah Weide (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead), who was ninth with a time of 19:19. The field included more than 150 runners.
On the men's side, senior Dave Hyde (Naperville, Ill./Central) paced the Tigers with a 28th-place finish. The Tigers finished 11th in the event.
