Bui Leads Tigers in Macalester Invite

St. Paul, MN- Wittenberg headed north to St. Paul, MN for the Macalester Invite where they competed against Chapman, Occidental, La Verne, and Ottawa. The two-day tournament consisted of grueling competition and a double overtime match against Occidental.

Day One- Wittenberg competed against Chapman in their first match of the day. The Tigers had seven different individuals score, being led by Sierra Bui with four goals. Bui was able to get the first point on the board for Wittenberg in the second quarter Bui went on to put three more on the board, all in the second quarter. Also scoring in the second was Savannah Cross. Wittenberg was only able to get one on the board in the third quarter, coming from Evelyn Heil with the Tigers sixth goal of the game. The fourth quarter had goals from Riley Kettelson, Sierra Bui, and Tessa Crown. Leading in the net was Olivia Pena with five saves. The Tigers fell to Chapman with a score of 20-9. In their second match of the day, Wittenberg took on Occidental who they will see again later in the season. The Red & White put up seven goals but fell in their second match after two overtime periods 11-7. Emma Menjivar, Grace McLaughlin, and Sierra Bui got on the board in the first quarter to lead 3-2. An empty second quarter allowed Occidental to pull ahead by one but Wittenberg answered back in the third with goals from Sierra Bui and Kiersten Heverly. Two more goals from Emma Menjivar and Grace McLaughlin in the fourth would be Wittenberg's last on the day.

Day Two- The Tigers returned the following day to take on La Verne and Ottawa but fell in both matches. La Verne took the first game of the day with a 15-7 score and Ottawa took the second with a 17-11 score. Wittenberg continued to look to freshman, Sierra Bui who put up three goals across both games. Also contributing for the Red & White were Evelyn Heil, Elizabeth Schexnaider, Kiersten Heverly, Grace McLaughlin, and Meghan Lythgoe against La Verne. Jordan Brough saw two saves against La Verne in the first quarter and Olivia Pena saw three in the fourth. Contributing in the Tigers final game of the Macalester Invite were Kailey Cordova, Kiersten Heverly, Evelyn Heil, Elizabeth Schexnaider, Sierra Bui, Grace McLaughlin, and Emma Menjivar.

Wittenberg Leaders- Wittenberg was led by Sierra Bui with ten goals on the weekend and Jordan Brough with 11 saves.

Up Next- The Tigers will be back on the road for their next match-up. They will head to Grove City to take on the Wolverines at 7:30PM on the 25th.
