Tigers Overtake Transylvania On The Road

Lexington, KY - The Wittenberg University volleyball team traveled to Transylvania University on Tuesday evening, defeating the Pioneers 3-1 [26-24, 14-25, 25-22, 25-19]. With this win, the Tigers have now won seven straight, as they get set to head into North Coast Athletic Conference action this weekend. Wittenberg was led by Hannah Schartz and Katie Hiestand, each putting down 12 kills on the night. Schartz nearly led the way with a .308 hitting percentage, adding six digs and four blocks to her credit. Hiestand was involved in a bit of everything, adding 17 digs, a team-high along with Dakota White. Maya Hagander led the team with a .333 kill percentage, posting seven kills and 15 total attacks, adding six block assists to her total.

Match Breakdown

The Tigers put down 13 kills in the opening set with just three errors on 34 total attack attempts, hitting .294. After the Pioneers took the second set, Wittenberg bounced back with two gritty third and fourth set victories. Wittenberg stymied the Transylvania offense through the late stages of the match, holding the Pioneers to an attacking percentage of just .139 in the third set and .086 in the fourth set. The Tiger attack continued to gain momentum as Wittenberg closed in on the win, the Red and White put together a .268 clip in the third set with 17 kills. The Tigers closed out the match, hitting .286 with 16 kills on 35 swings. As a unit, the Tigers posted a .211 hitting clip during the match, putting down 53 kills with 21 blocks at the net.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, opening up NCAC play, hosting the Terriers of Hiram College at 7:00PM.
