Tiger Volleyball Sweeps Day Two Of NCAC/MIAA Challenge

Sandusky, OH – The Wittenberg University women's volleyball team returned to action on Saturday at the Cedar Point Sport Center, taking down No. 7 Hope College 3-2 [25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 15-13]. Taking on their second Top 10 opponent in two matches, facing off against the Hope College Fly Dutchmen in the first of two matches of the day. The Tigers closed out their day with a 3-0 [25-21, 25-20, 25-19] win over Albion College before heading back to Springfield. Wittenberg has tested the depth of their line-up early this season, taking four of their first eight matches of the season to five sets.

Four Tigers tallied double-digit kills through the five-set thriller against Hope. Katie Hiestand led the way with 19 kills on 58 swings, adding 13 digs and two blocks. Tyler Linkhart followed close behind with 14 kills coming on 37 total attacks and just one error for a .351 kill percentage. Kendall Robertson and Hannah Schartz tallied 10 kills apiece for the Red and White. Schartz added 10 digs and got in on three block assists at the net.

Wittenberg wrapped up the day against the Albion College Brittons, led by Sarah Hettich putting down 13 kills on 22 swings, adding for block assists up front. Gabi Hancock posted a team-high .667 attacking percentage in the final match of the weekend with nine kills, coming on 12 attacks with just one error. Schartz had a clean game on the attacking end, recording 10 kills on 18 attack attempts with zero errors for a .556 kill percentage, adding eight digs.

Wittenberg will return to action for a four-game home slate, hosting their annual Fall Classic from Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers open the classic taking on Mount St. Joseph University at 4 PM on Friday, September 17, closing out the opening day against Rose-Hulman at 8 PM. Wittenberg returns to action on Saturday, September 18, facing off against Heidelberg at Noon before closing out the weekend against Earlham at 4PM.
